Alison Bechdel's bestselling graphic novel comes to the stage
EVOLUTION THEATRE COMPANY in association with the ABBEY THEATER OF DUBLIN will be presenting the Tony-Award winning musical FUN HOME in May. Originally developed for Broadway without illustrations, director Joe Bishara had a vision that will use illustration for the sets and musical numbers. He will be working with designer and artist C.G. Ryan to develop a unique, but complimentary visual style.
When her father dies unexpectedly, graphic novelist Alison dives deep into her past to tell the story of the volatile, brilliant, one-of-a-kind man whose temperament and secrets defined her family and her life. In this refreshingly honest musical, Alison relives her unique childhood playing at the family’s Bechdel Funeral Home, her growing understanding of her own sexuality, and the looming, unanserable questions about her father’s hidden desires as she reinterprets her parents through grown-up eyes.
